Artist Statement

My art is a path to understanding and contemplating what it means to care for ourselves and humanity. I seek to dismantle cultural normalcies, uncover hidden experiences, and be transparent about facets of my own personal identity as a starting point for shared understanding, healing, and change within society. Tying in my own poetic language of duality, I show it is possible to have a layered, complex relationship with who we are as individuals and the moments that have a lasting impact on us.

My creative process centers on giving new life to old material and leaving behind a personal touch. I maintain an intimate relationship with my work, often using my hands instead of a paintbrush, leaving impressions from my fingers to linger on ceramic, or exposing hand-stitching in installation-based quilts. Guided by intuition, I allow decisions to unfold in the moment, responding to the materials as I work. While embracing imperfection, self-portraits reveal unguarded states of being, fibers are welcome to fray, and tentative freehand drawings carry a softness that evokes vulnerability. Through experimentation, contemplation, and an inclination to hold the outcome loosely, meaning surfaces organically from pieces, inviting varied connections among viewers. I create what I call “a collage within a collage,” layering and repeating visuals to generate movement within more abstracted pieces. My work exists in the tension between carrying the remnants of grief and the fragility of the human condition, and offering hope for transformation, renewal, and restoration.
