Some snippets from my artist statement: My choic Some snippets from my artist statement:

My choice of working with fiber material aims to soften, balance, and bring in an element of comfort to complex bodily experiences like overstimulation and disassociation. Rooted in my series of work, Everything and Nothing, is the quiet and caring act of slow stitching and rearrangement, a process-based approach that counteracts and represents scenes of sensory and mental overload.

Coming from a place of personal experience, Everything and Nothing was inspired by the question, “What is it like to feel everything and nothing at the same time?” With the title, I want to acknowledge the weightiness of “being a body,” and to approach the topic of what it means to be human in our Western culture.

❤️ Simply put, my work is about slowing down and having sensory experiences that are positive rather than overwhelming, like going outside in nature to observe the wind move the leaves or the ripples in the water. I hope my work inspires others to adopt restorative practice in their daily life, because it is so needed in our world!

I am not quite there yet, but my recent experimentations in watercolor are showing me the more I "do," the more good works show up. That also means that over half of them have failed, but that is just the process!

"Right Time, Right Place"
I grew my hair long;
I'm starting to settle here.
It feels surreal
To be taken seriously,
To be loved in a way that only
Creators and makers desire;
You understand my language.

I don't need a whole audience
Or lots of money.
I want you to see what I'm thinking
And to take a piece of it with you.
It felt like such an accomplishment to be able to It felt like such an accomplishment to be able to share a piece of myself with the public today at the reception (Bethel University, MN). A year ago, I wouldn’t have considered sharing this vulnerable journal-style book. It is SO meaningful to me to allow others to resonate with my work in a way that is greater than my experiences. Super proud of all the artists in this show! This was my last (and 3rd) Raspberry Monday, but perhaps my favorite! I’m thankful to my profs and the faculty for their unending encouragement, support, and wisdom.

A little background to this piece: this book is a part of a series, “She Carries Me,” that I created last year in Guided Practice Painting. It came in a time where I was grappling with my identity, missing home and family thousands of miles away, dealing with multiple medication changes, weight gain, and recovering from burnout from the previous semester. I primarily used the color blue because that was the only color that accurately described the state of life I was in. I have an interest in documenting “real life,” even if that means sitting in uncomfortable and negative spaces. I hope my work can validate others’ experiences and connect to my audience in ways that help us to not feel alone during uncertainty and change.

In the light of transparency, I wanted to show my In the light of transparency, I wanted to show my submission for a postcard contest for the Raspberry Monday Exhibition that was rejected. I always appreciate artists that do this online. There were lots of beautiful submissions this year, and I’m glad I could take the time to unwind and have fun with this. My design was inspired by the time I went raspberry picking with my dad. I used about 13-14 different mediums to create this, and wanted to make something very tactile. I spent 2 weeks working on this and had to relearn some photoshop in the last hours of submitting, which was stressful. Thanks to my partner for all his wonderful support in this and helping me decide composition of certain elements, holding the art while I could photograph, and for his tech skills! Love that guy!
Materials: watercolor paper, watercolor, acrylic, acrylic paint skin, glass bead medium, yarn, embroidery floss, magazine clippings, graphite pencil, colored pencil, oil pastel, fabric, nail polish, marker, pen, and photoshop to extend the watercolor paper to make it the right size.
