She carries me

I'm not so scared of my body;
I've seen her before.
She stays with me and
Carries me across worlds,
Stimulating change when I change, and
Vomits the feeling of life out of me
So I can touch, see, and hear,
"That is within me."

The “She carries me” series is a constellation of writing, painting, music, and bookmaking that wrestles with concepts of change, time, and personal identity. More importantly, it is an act of care amidst chaos. The theme of feeling flooded recurs throughout this series through the visualization of the looming blue atmosphere overhead. Blue is a significant color choice because blue was the only color that accurately described the state of life I was in. Necessity led me to create this series. It was a way to map out everything that was happening to me and document it. Making self-portraits allowed me to be compassionate toward myself, grow in tenderness, and be honest in telling my story. I hope others feel validated and seen in these works.
